User Friendly Wines

The Union wine list is a small but regularly changing list of varieties and styles, with an emphasis on the esoteric and good value. For us, wine appreciation is about enjoying what is in the glass and varies depending on whether we are relaxing on a summers evening on our sunny roof terrace or sitting down to a robust roast beef lunch on a winter Sunday. Wine doesn't have to be pretentious or scary - it's fun.

Our experienced buyers (Pete and Iain) can always be called upon to offer common sensed advice and to make user friendly recommendations that can be approached with confidence.

We love our wine here at the Union and are more than happy to de-mistify it for you. Just ask!

Union white wines are offered at all budgets. We like aged Chenin Blanc from the Loire - bottle aged, slightly caramelised wines with a hint of oxidation - but we'll try anything as we tirelessly research on behalf of our members!
Union reds lean towards organic and biodynamic. We're also comfortable drinking our red wines cooler and we stock a number of varietals that lend themselves well to this; Loire Chinon (Cab. Franc), Cru Beaujolais (Gamay) and juicy New World Cabernet blends.
New World
We also love the New World and are happy to buy and keep grown up Californian Chardonnays for aging in our cellars. We are always pleased to find something unusual for you to try. Don't hesitate to ask to see Gus, Iain or Pete.
Union Wine Club
We regularly taste new wines in the back bar at lunchtimes and members are always welcome to join us. Let us know what your preferences are - and we will endeavour to source wines for you from the many wine fairs we attend. Or follow the link below to join our Union Wine Club
